AFL legend Joel Selwood marks his first Father’s Day with Loch Lomond Whisky

AFL legend Joel Selwood will be celebrating his first Father’s Day by toasting his own Dad in a heartfelt campaign with Loch Lomond Scotch whisky.

The sentimental campaign features the former Geelong captain opening up to his Dad Bryce about the advice he received growing up and what he will pass down to his son Joey.

Joel said he will be marking the occasion with a low-key family picnic and toasting to his father with a glass of the Loch Lomond 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky which is available exclusively Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars.

“I’m really excited to create a new family ritual with Brit and Joey but I’m also looking forward to celebrating my own Dad who shared so much wisdom with us boys growing up,” he said.

“Dad and I often enjoy a glass of Loch Lomond together. It’s one of those ‘if you know, you know’ whiskies that is always in the cupboard for a special occasion. I love the taste and it doubles as a special gift,”

Originating from Scotland, Loch Lomond has been making the finest malt whiskies since 1814, and this year received 17 medals at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition, including eight double golds, edging out more than 5,500 entries.

The new campaign coincides with the busiest time of year to purchase whisky after the Christmas period. The retailer says it expects to sell more than 300,000 bottles of whisky this Father’s Day, which is 37 per cent higher than an average week.

Coles Liquor general manager, customer, Mia Lloyd said that customers more than ever will be looking for a high-quality Father’s Day gift that all dads will love.

“We know many of our customers will be celebrating Father’s Day at home so we have some great gift options that will also look good on the table,” said Mia.

“We’ve got some excellent gift ideas for those looking to spoil Dad but not break the bank, like Winton Road Borossa Valley Shiraz on offer for $20 at Liquorland, Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2019 for $45 at Liquorland and Wolf of the Willows Dad Beer, 4 pack for $12 at Liquorland and First Choice Liquor Market.

“Ahead of Father’s Day we also expect to sell more than 3.4 million bottles of wine and over 400,000 units of craft beer across our national Liquorland, First Choice Liquor Market and Vintage Cellars stores.”

Loch Lomond is one of Coles Liquor’s Exclusive Liquor Brands (ELB). In the retailer’s recent FY23 results announced last week, the portfolio experienced an 8.5 per cent increase in sales supported by the release of 259 new products.

More than 500 awards were also given to the retailer’s portfolio in FY23, including the Tasmanian Gin of the Year trophy for Pure Origin Tasmanian Dry Gin, at the Melbourne International Spirits Competition and Tinnies Pale Ale being awarded the Best English Beer Pale Ale Trophy in the Pale Ale category, at the World Beer Awards Competition.
